Let’s be honest. Most of us sit way too much. Long hours at a desk might not feel dangerous, but over time, that chair becomes the enemy of your hips. Tightness, stiffness, aching, and hip pain are your body’s way of waving a red flag saying, “Hey, something’s not right down here!”
Now, you could just pop a pill for the hip pain and move on. And yes, it might dull the discomfort for a bit.
But remember—painkillers don’t fix the problem.
They’re like putting masking tape over a smoke detector to quiet the alarm while the fire keeps burning.
At Grant Chiropractic, we don’t believe in covering up symptoms. We go after the root cause of your pain to help restore motion, correct alignment, and give your body the freedom to heal naturally.
Our motto?
Chiropractic first. Medication second. Surgery last.
Because starting with the most conservative, effective care just makes sense.
Why Sitting Wrecks Your Hips
When you sit for hours, your hip flexors tighten up like over-stretched rubber bands, while your glutes and core go on vacation. The result is a painful imbalance that strains your hips, lower back, and pelvis.
You might notice:
- A deep ache when you stand up
- Tightness after driving or working
- A dull, radiating pain down your leg
- Or that constant “I’m getting old” stiffness (you’re not—you’re just sitting too long!)
Over time, this imbalance can steal your flexibility, wreck your posture, and even lead to chronic hip pain or back issues.
How Chiropractic Care Gets to the Root
Chiropractic adjustments do more than just make things “pop.” They help restore your body’s natural alignment and mobility, especially in the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
At Grant Chiropractic, we combine:
- Gentle spinal and hip adjustments to relieve pressure
- Advanced therapies like shockwave and laser to speed up healing
- Soft-tissue work to release stubborn tightness in the hip flexors and glutes
- Targeted exercises to build strength and stability
These treatments aren’t a one-size-fits-all plan. We customize it to create a care plan that is designed to help you move freely again.
Simple Stretches to Relieve Hip Pain
While you’re working on your alignment, here are two of our favorite hip stretches you can do almost anywhere to relieve hip pain:
1. Hip Flexor Stretch
Step 1: Kneel with your right knee on the ground and your left foot in front (like a lunge).
Step 2: Tuck your pelvis under slightly and tighten the front of your thigh (your quads).
Step 3: Hold for 20 seconds, then relax and sink a bit deeper.
Step 4: Switch sides. You’ll feel your hips start to breathe again.
2. The “Figure-Four” Stretch (Piriformis Stretch)
Step 1: Sit tall in your chair and cross your right ankle over your left knee, like making the number 4.
Step 2: Gently press your right knee toward the floor as you lean forward.
Step 3: Hold for 20 seconds, resist slightly, then go a little deeper.
Step 4: Repeat 2–3 times on each side.
These two stretches alone can work wonders for desk-bound hips.
Upgrade Your Desk Setup
Even with the best chiropractic care, you can’t outwork a bad desk setup.
Make sure:
- Your hips are level with or slightly higher than your knees
- Your feet rest flat on the floor (or a footrest)
- Your monitor is at eye level
- You move every 30–60 minutes (set a reminder!)
A sit-stand desk or quick “hip break” every hour can keep blood flowing and prevent stiffness before it even starts.
